Yay – Running toward Fate is live

I'm a happy girl today!

Terrace at Kate's

To the left is a small part of my terrace. You can see one of my Dalmatians there. This sofa is where I do most of my writing. It's a perfect location. I have an iPod and speaker on the table hiding behind some of those books. And I look out onto a colorful yard with bougainvillea in many colors, frangipani trees, and other flowers that I don't know the names of.

I worked hard yesterday afternoon to publish Running toward Fate in both the kindle and paperback versions. And I'm planning to get my next book published by the end of September.

You might wonder what kind of drugs I've been taking to have such ambitious goals. But I assure you that no drugs whatsoever are involved. Not even coffee which I never developed a taste for. Okay, I do allow myself one Coke a day. Does that count as a drug?

Anyhow, let me explain how I was able to publish these two books so quickly after not publishing anything for two and a half years and how I plan to have another done in a little more than a month. You may have already guessed the answer. During the time that I didn't publish anything, I continued to write. The problem was that I got ideas for a new story too often and left the one I was working on half-finished. As a result, I have many novels on my hard drive in various states of completion.

Luckily, my ideas fit into a series that I'm calling Journeys Fiction. In general, the stories revolve around a main character who has an emotional issue from the past that he or she needs to deal with.I don't want to give away too much, but these psychological issues often motivate the main character to travel. The destination is usually Indonesia, but not always. Stay tuned!

How To Find The Heart Of Bali

In April 2012, I published my first ebook How To Find The Heart Of Bali. It’s an introduction to a wonderful part of the world that Westerners seem to become enchanted with.

BaliIn How To Find The Heart Of Bali, you will discover for yourself the passion that Bali has inspired in Western visitors for more than a hundred years. I have been living in Indonesia for more than 30 years and I know the island as few other outsiders do.

I wrote this book because I wanted to make available to Westerners a book that would help them decide whether this was a destination that they wanted to visit. Recent books and movies like Eat, Pray, Love have made Bali better known, but they have also sometimes given descriptions that didn’t reflect the actual reality. I wanted travelers to better understand what Bali really is so that they could make an informed decision.

This book is available on amazon.com. You can read it on just about any pc, mac, or smartphone. Amazon has been very clever to make software and apps so that their books can be read on just about any device.

If you already have a kindle, then you know how to get new books. If you don’t, you can download the free software called Kindle for PC or Kindle for Mac – or you can download the free app for whichever smartphone you have or iPod Touch.

I’m #1!

How To Find The Heart Of BaliAmazon changes a book’s best seller rank very often.  I’ve heard that this rank changes on an hourly basis, but I have no proof of that.  The formula that they use seems to be secret, but of course, it obviously depends on its own sales in comparison to the sales of other books in its category.

The category for my book How To Find The Heart Of Bali is Books/Travel/Asia/Indonesia/Bali.  There are 153 books in this category, and if you do a search at amazon.com in the kindle story for the word ‘bali,’ my book How To Find The Heart Of Bali comes up #1.  It was published April 6, 2012, and arrived at that #1 position on May 25.

Even more important than it position in the search results is its best seller rank.

The best seller rank for my book How To Find The Heart Of Bali hovers around #3 to #5  in its category most of the time.  Every once in a while it gets to #2.  But just yesterday my book landed on the #1 spot for around 12 hours.  Now as I write this, it is back in #4 position.  That’s still very respectable.

I am working very hard on my next book called Transformative Travel, which I plan to publish in July.  Please watch for it.
